Three Spring Exhibitions at Belvedere Vienna

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Belvedere Vienna presents three spring exhibitions: 'On the New. Young Scenes in Vienna' featuring emerging artists from established galleries and alternative spaces like Pina, Foundation, and Kevin Space; a retrospective on Christian Ludwig Attersee, the Austrian sailor-turned-artist known for his ironic and subversive work; and 'Talking Heads. Contemporary Dialogues with F. X. Messerschmidt', which juxtaposes Franz Xaver Messerschmidt's 18th-century character heads with works by Maria Lassnig, Arnulf Rainer, Mara Mattuschka, Lutz Mommartz, Douglas Gordon, and Bruce Nauman. The young artists exhibition runs from mid-April with rotating shows every three weeks, highlighting craft over post-conceptual strategies. Attersee's show includes a performance on June 16 with Markus Lüpertz, Hermann Nitsch, Gerhard Rühm, Ingrid and Oswald Wiener. Talking Heads explores psyche, perception, and self-reflection through distorted faces in various media.
