Three sculptures by Bourgeois, Rizzoli, di Robilant inaugurate Origgio's public park

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Three sculptures by Louise Bourgeois, Giovanni Rizzoli, and Tristano di Robilant have been installed in the Parco Comunale di via Piantanida in Origgio, a town of 7,700 inhabitants in the province of Varese. The works—Naughty Girl (2009-2010) by Rizzoli, The Couple (2003) by Bourgeois, and Elijah's Cloud (2012) by di Robilant—are the culmination of an 18-year public art collection process initiated by Mayor Mario Angelo Ceriani. The Couple, weighing 635 kg and measuring 365.1 x 200 x 109.9 cm, is the only Bourgeois sculpture displayed in a non-museum public space in Europe. It was created in New York in Bourgeois's studio, thanks to her friendship with Rizzoli, who facilitated a request from Origgio's delegation to the then-nonagenarian artist. Bourgeois designed the prototype but did not live to see it completed. Elijah's Cloud, inspired by the prophet Elijah, was enlarged from a glass soufflé to nearly 3.5 meters in polished aluminum to interact with surrounding trees, clouds, and sky. The project was supported by the Fonderia Artistica 3V of Walter Vaghi.
