Three Photographers Confront Urban Violence in Paris

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Three concurrent exhibitions in Paris explore latent violence in urban spaces through photography. Katharina Bosse's 'Surface Tension' at Galerie Anne Barrault (March 20–May 12) stages clinical, mirror-laden scenes where subjects appear frozen in kitsch interiors, their clothing signaling tribal identities while inner lives remain inaccessible. Yves Trémorin's 'Guns' at Galerie Gilles Peyroulet (March 24–April 24, 2001) presents obsessive, cold photographs of revolvers on colored backgrounds, aestheticizing the fetish object while preserving its murderous potential. Zeus, an urban artist working at night with a leopard-print mask, targets advertising billboards with red paint, shooting between the eyes of models from Chanel, Dior, Gap, and H&M. His actions, documented in photos, videos, and installations at Galerie Patricia Dorfmann (March 31–May 12, 2001), constitute a form of citizen resistance against the violence of consumer ideology.
