Three New York exhibitions explore Postminimalist painting legacies through Mangold, Grotjahn, and Fyfe

In early 2007, New York hosted three solo exhibitions that highlighted various painting techniques following Minimalism. At PaceWildenstein (545 W22nd Street), Robert Mangold presented 'Column Structure Paintings,' which included twelve shaped canvases featuring drawn arcs and stained acrylic, available until March 10. Mark Grotjahn's 'Blue Paintings Light to Dark One Through Ten' at Anton Kern Gallery (532 W20th Street) showcased a gradient of ultramarine to navy blue, open until February 28. Joe Fyfe's display at James Graham & Sons (1014 Madison Avenue) emphasized textured artworks made from materials such as terrycloth and burlap, also viewable until March 10. These exhibitions illustrate the personal and expressive nature of Postminimalism, contrasting sharply with the limitations of Minimalism.
