Three Milan museums mark 80 years of Corrente movement

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The project '80 anni di Corrente' features exhibitions across three locations in Milan: Museo del Novecento, Biblioteca Sormani, and Casa Museo Boschi Di Stefano, each delving into the Corrente cultural movement. Established in 1938 by Ernesto Treccani during Italy's racial laws, the movement originated with the journal 'Vita Giovanile', which initially embraced a 'critical fascism' viewpoint before shifting to outright opposition. Although the journal was rebranded as 'Corrente' and ceased in 1940, its legacy persisted through Edizioni di Corrente, Palcoscenico theater, and Bottega di Corrente. Notable artists included Arnaldo Badodi and Renato Guttuso. The exhibitions will continue until early 2019 and were emphasized by Milan's Culture Councillor Filippo Del Corno as part of the 'Novecento Italiano' 2018 initiative.
