Three Marcel Broodthaers works to debut at Phillips London auction

On October 10-11, 2024, Phillips will hold an auction in London during Frieze London week, featuring three pieces by Belgian conceptual artist Marcel Broodthaers (1924-1976). The works, part of the Herbig Collection curated by Jost and Barbara Herbig, consist of "Die Welt" (1973, estimated at £150,000-200,000), "Académie I, Académie II" (1968, estimated at £30,000-50,000), and "Carte politique du monde" (circa 1970, estimated at £15,000-20,000). More items from this collection, including notable works like "Éloge du sujet" (1974) and films "La pluie" (1969) and "Rendez-vous mit Jacques Offenbach" (1972), will be auctioned in 2025. Broodthaers is known for his critique of art institutions through "Musée d'Art Moderne, Département des Aigles."
