Three Italian Photographers Shine at Canada's Zoom Photo Festival
The tenth edition of the Zoom Photo Festival, a Canadian photojournalism festival founded by Michel Tremblay, is taking place in Chicoutimi, Quebec, transforming the town into the 'Perpignan of Quebec.' Among the 23 exhibitions, three Italian photographers—Daniele Volpe, Nicolò Filippo Rosso, and Antonio Faccilongo—present some of the most humanistic reportages. Volpe, an engineer and storyteller, shows intimate stories from Guatemalan Ixil women and Haitian-descendant communities in the Bahamas. Rosso, a graduate in Letters from Turin who moved to Colombia, exhibits 'Abandoned in the Dust,' a black-and-white series on drought consequences in La Guajira. Faccilongo, a Roman reporter, presents his award-winning ongoing project 'Habibi' on Palestine. Other notable photographers include Slovenian Matjaz Krivic on lithium, English Nigel Dickinson on the meat industry, South African Brent Stirton on falconry in Arab countries, and Franco-Spanish Catalina Martin-Chico on FARC women fighters, which won the World Press Photo award and is displayed at the Pulperie, a restored late-19th-century industrial complex that once supplied cellulose pulp to England during World War I. The festival runs until November 10, 2019, at the Saguenay Fjord.
