Three Italian Masters in Dialogue at New York's Italian Cultural Institute

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The Italian Cultural Institute of New York presents 'Dialogues Between Italy and America: Jannis Kounellis, Maria Lai and Lucio Pozzi,' a focused exhibition featuring one work by each artist, on view until May 13, 2025. Organized in collaboration with Magazzino Italian Art, the show highlights the artists' enduring ties to the United States. Maria Lai's 'Ille' (1984) documents her collaboration with singer Ille Strazza, featuring a sewn backdrop and a book-score. Jannis Kounellis's large-scale 'Senza titolo (Omaggio a Fontana)' (1986) incises lead panels, referencing Lucio Fontana's slashed canvases. Lucio Pozzi, celebrating his 90th birthday, created 'Consular Relocations,' a 14-element installation named after Greco-Roman sea deities, exploring spatial perception and color-form interaction. The works correspond to concurrent Magazzino exhibitions: 'Maria Lai. A Journey to America' (through July 28), 'Lucio Pozzi: qui dentro / in here' (through June 23), and the permanent Arte Povera collection. Founders Nancy Olnick and Giorgio Spanu expressed pride in bringing these dialogues to Manhattan.
