Three films to watch this weekend: Sofia, Momenti di trascurabile felicità, and The Hate U Give

Meryem Benm'Barek's debut film 'Sofia' won Best Screenplay in Un Certain Regard at the 71st Cannes Film Festival. It addresses out-of-wedlock childbirth in contemporary Morocco, where it is illegal and punishable by prison. The film critiques archaic laws and social class divisions without blaming male characters. Daniele Luchetti's 'Momenti di trascurabile felicità', co-written with Francesco Piccolo, adapts Piccolo's books on happiness and unhappiness, starring Pif, Thony, and Renato Carpentieri as a humorous Paradise clerk. 'Il coraggio della verità' (original title 'The Hate U Give') follows Starr, a 16-year-old girl with dual identities, who witnesses police brutality against her Black friend, sparking a fight against racism. The film is distributed by 20th Century Fox.
