Three Congolese Artists Explore History and Resistance at ArtNoble Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-27

ArtNoble gallery in Milan's Lambrate district reopens with 'Trois auters d’Histoire', a group exhibition curated by Angelica Litta Modignani featuring Nelson Makengo (b. 1990, Kinshasa), Georges Senga (b. 1983, Lubumbashi), and Pamela Tulizo (b. 1993, Bukavu). The show is dedicated to Luca Attanasio, the Italian ambassador killed near Goma on February 22, 2021, and examines socio-political issues in the Democratic Republic of Congo with global implications. Through photography and video, each artist focuses on their hometown. Senga's 2019 series 'Le Vide' investigates mining labor in Lubumbashi and surrounding areas, highlighting exploitation and the void of future prospects. Tulizo's 2021 'Enfer Paradisiaque' photographs in Goma feature women wearing garments made from basic necessities like beans, maize, charcoal, matches, cassava leaves, light bulbs, and water cans, critiquing Western high fashion and redefining women as agents of resistance. Makengo's 2019 video-documentary 'Up at Night' captures Kinshasa residents living by LED battery light due to electricity shortages, accompanied by a sculptural installation of a street vendor's portable charger stand. The exhibition runs at ArtNoble gallery in Milan.
