Three Authentic Banksy Murals on Display at Monza's Villa Reale
The Villa Reale di Monza inaugurates 'Banksy, Painting Walls' in the Orangerie, featuring three authentic murals—actual wall sections—by the anonymous street artist, created in 2009, 2010, and 2018. The exhibition, like many others, is unauthorized by Banksy, with most works from private collections. The murals depict teenagers, reflecting the artist's focus on climate emergency, social inequality, migrants, war, and human rights. A centerpiece is 'Season's Greetings' (2018, Talbot, Wales), showing a child tasting snow that is actually ash from a burning bin, referencing Talbot's status as the UK's most polluted city per WHO. Also included are 'Heart Boy' and 'Robot/Computer Boy', alongside 70 original works. Curator Sabina de Gregori notes that the art market transforms street art from a democratic form into a privatized, economically valued commodity, rendering Banksy's work sacred and detached from its urban context, a process the exhibition aims to highlight.
