Three Artists Show New Works at Studio la Città in Verona

Hélène de Franchis, director of Galleria Studio la Città in Verona, has curated simultaneous solo exhibitions for Luigi Carboni, Victoria Stoian, and Antonio Marchetti Lamera, focusing on painting and drawing rather than installation or sculpture. The three artists, all previously shown at the gallery, present new cycles of work. Luigi Carboni (Pesaro, 1957) debuts 'Ridisegnare,' a series of thirteen large canvases derived from 2019 sketches, featuring layered black marks and vibrant backgrounds that evoke chaotic, nervous energy. Victoria Stoian (Chișinău, 1987) combines two series: 'Codri Earthquake' (2015), which records every second of the 2011 Moldavian earthquake in color, and 'Nistru Confines' (2017), a four-work cycle mapping the Nistru River border between Moldova and the breakaway Transnistria region. The combined exhibition is titled 'CodNis.' Antonio Marchetti Lamera (Bergamo, 1964) presents four recent works centered on shadow: 'Cronos' and 'Gea' are polyptychs in pencil on paper; 'Elio' and 'Trame d’ombra' consist of nine drawings each. His installation references the 3rd-century BC Greek astronomer Aristarchus of Samos and Roberto Casati's book 'La scoperta dell’ombra,' featuring a sundial that functions only with Earth's rotation. The exhibitions run concurrently at Studio la Città.
