Three Artists Selected for Casa Wabi-ArtReview Residency Prize in Oaxaca

Saba Khan, Tomas Kleiner, and Daniel Melo Morales have been chosen for the Casa Wabi / ArtReview residency prize, with stays planned at the Oaxaca, Mexico center founded by Bosco Sodi in 2014. Khan, born in 1982 in Pakistan, creates multimedia pieces that blend memorial, monument, and public project languages, using dioramas, LED displays, and textile banners to examine structural flaws through grandeur and satire. Kleiner, a 1990-born Swedish artist based in Düsseldorf, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts there and focuses on performative, collaborative installations that merge conceptual and experimental approaches, with work shown in many international museums. Morales, a first-generation interdisciplinary artist and musician from the United States born in 1979, lives in San Francisco, holds an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and a BA from Kenyon College, and produces soundworks, photographs, and installations emphasizing frenetic processes; he is also a 2024-25 Whitney Independent Study Program Studio Fellow. The residency will take place in Oaxaca, Mexico.
