Three Artists Among Time's 100 Most Influential People

Time magazine has included three figures from the art world in its 2017 Time 100 list of the world's most influential people: artists Kerry James Marshall and Cindy Sherman, and architect David Adjaye. Marshall was recognized following a major retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, while Sherman was noted for her research on gender disparities, particularly focusing on the female condition. Adjaye gained visibility through his design of the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., which opened months earlier, and the Obama Presidential Library. The inclusion marks an increase from previous years: in 2016 only Yayoi Kusama was listed, and in 2015 only Chris Ofili. The Time 100 list, first published in 1999, is compiled annually by Time editors from a pool of candidates selected by the magazine's international journalists. The 2017 list also features prominent figures from politics, business, and entertainment, including Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
