Thomas J. Price Monumental Sculptures Invade Florence

British artist Thomas J. Price (born London, 1981) merges traditional sculpture with intuitive digital technology to explore psychological nuances of fictional characters. Florence celebrates him with the widespread exhibition "Thomas J. Price in Florence," curated by Sergio Risaliti, opening March 14, 2025. The show unfolds in Palazzo Vecchio (until June 11, 2025) and public spaces like the courtyard of Museo Novecento and Piazza della Signoria (until September 14, 2025), inviting reflection on individuality, technology, and societal hierarchies. In Piazza della Signoria, Price installs "Time Unfolding," a gilded 3.6-meter sculpture of a free Black woman, confronting historical works like Michelangelo's David replica, Cellini's Perseus, and Bandinelli's Hercules and Cacus. Price stated to La Repubblica that the work "poses questions about the social, aesthetic, and political hierarchies that guide our lives." The exhibition also features a bronze piece in the Museo Novecento courtyard.
