Thomas Houseago's First Spanish Exhibition Opens at Banca March

exhibition · 2026-04-30

British sculptor Thomas Houseago, based in Los Angeles and trained at Central Saint Martins and De Ateliers, presents his first exhibition in Spain at the Banca March gardens in Madrid, curated by Anne Pontégnie. The show features seven works from 2008 to 2025, including the recent 'Janus – Mirror – Figure' (2025), 'Large Walking Figure I (Leeds)' (2013), and 'Aluminium Construction Nº 1 (Giant)' (2008). Houseago's anthropomorphic sculptures combine traditional materials like plaster, wood, and bronze with industrial elements such as iron rods and hemp, revealing his process through visible hand marks and material joins. His influences range from Greek sculpture to Giacometti, Rodin, Picasso, Brancusi, and pop culture icons like David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and Darth Vader. The exhibition runs from May 1 to October 31, 2026.
