Thomas Demand's Blossom Installation for Prada Storefronts

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Thomas Demand has created Blossom, a photographic project for Prada store windows in New York, Milan, Paris, London, Tokyo, Singapore, Seoul, and Los Angeles. The installation features cherry blossoms celebrating spring's arrival, continuing Demand's long collaboration with the Italian fashion house. Demand, known for large-scale photographs of artificial reconstructions of real images, drew inspiration from Hanami, the Japanese art of flower viewing. The cherry blossoms symbolize the end of winter and represent youth, joy, and spring emotions, serving as a backdrop for Prada's Spring-Summer collection. Demand has previously worked with Prada on multiple projects, including curating the 2016 group show L'image volée at Fondazione Prada in Milan and participating in the 2017 exhibition The Boat is Leaking. The Captain Lied at Fondazione Prada in Venice during the Biennale Arte 2017, alongside Alexander Kluge, Anna Viebrock, and Udo Kittelmann. In 2007, Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice hosted a solo exhibition of Demand's work curated by Germano Celant.
