Thomas Bangalter curates immersive experience at Art Basel 2026

festival-fair · 2026-05-30

Thomas Bangalter, co-founder of Daft Punk, will curate an immersive event at Art Basel 2026, running June 18–21 at Messeplatz in Basel. He collaborates with German DJ Rampa (Keinemusik) and Swiss-French visual artist Julian Charrière, known for climate-themed installations like Controlled Burn and Towards No Earthly Pole. Developed with Fondation Beyeler in Riehen, the project aims to break down barriers between art and club culture. The event, titled WAREHOUSE ARTEFACTS, is produced by Nordstern Basel and organized by art.klub. It will be phone-free, requiring attendees to seal recording devices. From 11am to 5pm, visitors experience a deconstructed dance floor blending political history and underground culture, curated by Bangalter, Charrière, and Rampa. From 6pm to 11pm, the installation becomes a rave with a DJ set by Rampa and a special guest (Bangalter's performance unconfirmed). Late night (10pm–6am) moves to Nordstern Basel with sets by Desiree, Jimi Jules, and Yare. This is Bangalter's second foray into art-music crossover recently, following a face-unmasked DJ set at Centre Pompidou in Paris last autumn with Fred Again, and another London show in February 2026. Bangalter last performed live with Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo at the 2017 Grammys.
