Thinking Design Transforms Jiuzhaigou Micro-Village into Resort with Focus on Memory

Thinking Design is leading the transformation of a tiny eight-cabin wooden micro-village in Jiuzhaigou into a resort, with the project set for completion in 2025. Located on a 3,000-meter-high ridge in the Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, the site is described as China's smallest administrative village, perched dramatically against the sky amid clouds, firs, and rocky terrain. Curated by HAN Shuang, the architectural effort spans 8,092 square meters and is not framed as a renovation but as an act of remembrance—seeking to recall memories sealed in the land, the hidden breath of mountain forests and wood, and time's traces in stratified mountains. The design philosophy emphasizes reviving aged wood, raising old houses anew, and letting mountain springs sing again, with each piece of ancient wood returning to slopes and every crack telling stories of wind and frost. Wu Xiaoyong serves as the lead architect, while You Pu is credited as the photographer for the project. This initiative aims to preserve the site's unique character while adapting it for hospitality use.
