Thenjiwe Niki Nkosi Creates Woodcut Edition for C& Artists’ Editions #6
C& Artists’ Editions has unveiled its sixth release, a woodcut print named Anchor (Reprise) created by South African-American artist Thenjiwe Niki Nkosi. This edition is a collaborative effort with Sara-Aimee Verity of Edition~Verso based in Johannesburg, South Africa. The artwork illustrates relay runners on a track, delving into themes of community and the uncertain function of the 'anchor' runner. Crafted from laser-cut Meranti and Red Oak wood blocks, it is printed on black Canson Edition Black 250gsm paper, enhancing the interplay of wood grain and voids in the design. Limited to 15 prints in three sets of five, each signed and numbered, pre-sales have commenced with the initial five priced at €900 each (unframed, excluding VAT and shipping). Nkosi’s work reflects a nostalgic connection to woodcut as a symbol of South African political resistance, while the black paper engages with the cut blocks. This edition is part of C& Artists’ Editions, which has been championing artists from Africa and the Global Diaspora since 2013.
