TheFabLab Opens New Digital Fabrication Lab at Talent Garden Fondazione Agnelli in Turin
TheFabLab, a digital fabrication laboratory and smart object research center active in Milan for five years, has opened a new location in Turin. The lab is hosted within Talent Garden Fondazione Agnelli, a recently renovated campus designed by Carlo Ratti. This expansion follows the 2012 launch of Italy's first FabLab at Officine Arduino in Turin. The new facility is equipped with professional machines, industrial robots, resin 3D printers, and large laser cutters, and will serve as a prototyping and production space for professionals, startups, and companies. It will also function as a research and development center for Internet of Things projects, integrating sensors and actuators into motorcycles, cars, furniture, and appliances. The initiative aims to create an open innovation platform for Italian manufacturing, bridging traditional industries with digital technologies like IT, Big Data, and Cloud Computing. Massimo Temporelli, co-founder and president of TheFabLab, stated that the model focuses on companies, market, and design rather than hobbyist makers. Barbara Graffino, co-founder of Talent Garden Torino, emphasized that the lab adds to the ecosystem of innovation, offering training through the Innovation School and rapid prototyping. The campus already hosts over 300 innovators. Partners include BasicNet, whose president Marco Boglione noted that FabLabs can make traditional companies more competitive by enabling speed and reducing errors.
