Theaster Gates to stage 24-hour sound performance in ruined Bristol church
Theaster Gates, a renowned artist from Chicago, is set to unveil his inaugural public project in the UK, titled Sanctum. This initiative will showcase an evolving sound and spoken word performance at Bristol's historic Temple Church, a 14th-century Grade II listed site. Utilizing salvaged materials from local sites, Gates will create a temporary installation within the church. The project will involve participation from local musicians and artists. Sanctum will be part of the Art Weekender – Bristol & Bath festival, running from October 29 to November 21, 2015. Gates will also present a performance lecture at St. George’s on October 31 at 7 PM.
