The Spark Creative Hub: A New Three-Story Bookstore Opens in Naples
Despite a difficult start to the year with dozens of closures of historic newsstands and bookstores across Italy, a new independent bookstore is opening in the historic center of Naples. The Spark Creative Hub, a three-story, 500-square-meter space, will launch on February 27 near Piazza Bovio, a strategic hub between Piazza Garibaldi train station and Molo Beverello, and steps from the University of Naples Federico II. The venue houses over 20,000 book titles, a selection of vinyl records, CDs, and DVDs, a digital fabrication lab (FabLab), co-working areas, a space for training and events (music, theater, creative writing, photography, cinema), and a coffee bar. The project is led by Francesco Wurzburgher, who has experience across the book supply chain, together with family and friends. The FabLab, designed by architect and designer Michela Musto (known for collaborations with Foster+Partners in London), is equipped with 3D printers, laser cutters, and plotters, and aims to fuse traditional craftsmanship with digital prototyping technologies. Wurzburgher emphasizes the need for quality curation and community building to counter homogenization by distribution monopolies. The space is intended to be a reference point for curious visitors, offering depth of catalog and a multidisciplinary approach.
