The Sound of Design: Music and Ceramics at Cersaie 2018
At Cersaie 2018 in Bologna, the fifth edition of the exhibition The Sound of Design transformed Padiglione 30 into an immersive journey through music genres from rock to hip hop. Curated by Angelo Dall’Aglio and Davide Vercelli, the show occupied a 720-square-meter rectangular space designed like a whale's elongated body, divided into ten themed sets with synchronized music and video clips from 1976–1983. A central dance floor inspired by New York's Studio 54 faced the live broadcast booth of Radio Capital, the initiative's partner. The exhibition aimed to place the visitor at the center, using sound to enhance the experience of ceramic surfaces, architectural coverings, and bathroom furnishings. High-profile brands like Brionvega, Oikos, and Seletti participated. A conceptual mini-spa and a striking water cascade were installed at the Quadrivio of Galleria Cavour as a preview. The event underscored Cersaie's role as a major international trade fair while attracting a broader public through emotionally engaging design.
