The School of Radio: San Marino hosts radio art symposium

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

San Marino will host The School of Radio – radio art symposium from March 9 to 11, 2018, curated by Roberto Paci Dalò and Elisabeth Zimmermann. The event pays homage to two historic projects: John Cage's 1978 train performance "Il treno di John Cage" and the 1991-1998 festival "L'Arte dell'Ascolto" (LADA). The symposium is promoted by the University of the Republic of San Marino, Usmaradio, and the Secretariat of State for Education and Culture. It will take place at the Antico Monastero Santa Chiara and Teatro Titano, featuring roundtables, workshops, sound installations, photo exhibitions, and concerts. On March 9, sound installations by Anna Friz, Paolo Inverni, Robert Lippok, Scanner, Soundwalk Collective, and Michele Spanghero will open, along with a photo installation by Roberto Masotti. A workshop by Enrico Malatesta and a concert by MOKADELIC (known for the Gomorra TV series soundtrack) are also scheduled. March 10 features a symposium and the concert "Cagetown" celebrating 40 years of Cage's train piece, using super8 footage from Oderso Rubini's archives. The concert will become a monographic episode of Kunstradio on Ö1 (ORF). Paci Dalò stated the festival aims to apply past experiences to the present, creating a space for art projects that relate sound to space, image, and transmission technologies.
