The Saffron Verandah: A Fruit Orchard-Inspired Home in Tamil Nadu

The Saffron Verandah, a residential project by HabitArt Architecture Studio, is located in Chembarasanapalli, within the Shoolagiri area of northern Tamil Nadu, India. The house was designed around an existing mango orchard, which spans nearly a third of a hectare and provides a cooler microclimate. The project, completed in 2025, covers an area of 2700 square feet. The design team includes Rochana Ramakrishna and Yogita Kamath, with Aditya Venkat as the principal architect. The project was curated by Miwa Negoro. Photographs were taken by Naresh and Nayan. Materials and products used include Fenesta windows, Jaquar India bathroom fittings, Kota Stone from Vidhyasagar Stones, and Somany tiles for bathrooms. The house is categorized under 'Casas' (Houses). The design concept emphasizes the rhythm of nature, with time measured by tree flowering, fruit ripening, monsoon rains, and changing light.
