The Review Panel adapts format for Philadelphia and New York sessions, breaking rules for retrospectives

Next week, the Review Panel will kick off its fifth annual season in Philadelphia at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, aiming to foster greater audience involvement within the local artistic community. The session on November 2 will feature David Cohen alongside two guests: artist Colleen Asper, who teaches at PAFA and has work displayed at On Stellar Rays in New York, and Judith Stein, a returning panelist and author of a recent biography on Richard Bellamy. Meanwhile, on November 18 at Brooklyn Public Library, the usual prohibition on discussing retrospectives will be lifted, allowing guests Zoë Lescave, Nancy Princenthal, and Christian Viveros-Fauné to delve into career surveys of Kerry James Marshall and Marilyn Minter. The panel will concentrate on only two artists to provide ample time for in-depth discussion. The Philadelphia attendance mirrors PAFA's student demographics, supported by ongoing outreach. New format changes include smaller panels and longer Q&A sessions to enhance interaction, with Colleen Asper’s yoga poses symbolizing the panel's structured approach.
