The Postcard Printing Press: Miniature 3D-Printed Etching Press Launches on Kickstarter

German designers Martin Schneider and Dominik Schmitz have launched The Postcard Printing Press, a miniature 3D-printed tabletop printing press capable of intaglio printing, including etching, engraving, linocut, and woodcut. The device features a solid stainless steel roller, a geared printing bed, an ergonomic handle, special bearings, two table clamps, and a new registration grid for easier edition and multi-plate printing. The project follows Schneider's 2018 release of 3D-printable press files, which garnered significant interest. In 2019, with Schmitz's help, they ran a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised over €120,000 from 1,500 backers to create a fully automated 3D printer farm. The new Kickstarter campaign for The Postcard Printing Press has already surpassed its funding goal, ensuring production. The designers aim to make printmaking accessible by offering a portable, affordable alternative to expensive, heavy commercial presses.
