The Plantation Plot exhibition at Ilham Gallery examines colonial legacies through contemporary art

At Ilham Gallery in Kuala Lumpur, 'The Plantation Plot' is a collective exhibition that delves into the legacies of plantations through modern art, curated by Lim Sheau Yun. The event runs from 20 April to 21 September 2025 and includes pieces from the Kadist Foundation collection alongside works by Malaysian artists. The centerpiece of the exhibition is Connie Zheng's mixed-media creation 'As It Is: Nothing Lasts Forever' (2025). Additional highlights feature tapestries by Cian Dayrit and Henricus (2025), Corey McCorkle's 'Pendulum' (2016), Noara Quintana's rubber lamps, and Izat Arif's 'Tuan Tanah' (2025). The exhibition critiques plantation influences through various perspectives, drawing on Sylvia Wynter's 1971 essay while merging aesthetic appreciation with scholarly analysis, showcasing artists from the Global Majority.
