The Onion licenses Infowars from court-appointed manager in restructured deal

other · 2026-04-21

The satirical news organization The Onion has restructured its acquisition of Infowars through a licensing agreement with court-appointed manager Gregory Milligan, rather than purchasing assets outright. Under terms submitted to Texas state Judge Maya Guerra Gamble, parent company Global Tetrahedron will pay $81,000 monthly for six months, renewable for another six months, covering licensing rights to the website and intellectual property along with studio rent and utilities. This replaces a previous 2024 auction attempt to buy Infowars assets for $1.75 million. Alex Jones, who repeatedly called the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting a hoax, lost defamation suits filed by victims' families and eventually admitted in court the massacre was "100 per cent real." The gunman killed his mother before murdering six educators and 20 first-graders in Newtown, Connecticut. Jones vows to reconstitute his media empire as the 'Alex Jones Show,' insisting he is 'not going anywhere.' Families of victims faced harassment, death threats, and online abuse from Jones' followers. Infowars was put up for sale in 2024 following Jones' legal losses.
