The Nightline returns to Melbourne: an immersive hotline of sleepless confessions

The Malthouse Theatre's Bagging Room in Melbourne now hosts The Nightline, an engaging audio experience created by Roslyn Oades and Bob Scott. Attendees are seated at tables equipped with vintage telephones, exploring a variety of authentic voice messages from insomniacs, shift-workers, and others. Katia Molino, a performance artist, takes on the role of The Nightline Concierge, ensuring silence and collecting phones. Prior to the season, over 1,000 messages were gathered, and the line remains open for callers until the conclusion. Initially commissioned for RISING in 2021 but postponed due to lockdown, The Nightline has appeared at several festivals since. The production highlights the art of deep listening, featuring designs by Clare Britton, Fausto Brusamolino, and Greg Cameron. It continues until 29 August.
