The Met and Sabyasachi Launch Multi-Year Collaboration with Byzantine-Inspired Jewelry at NYFW

The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Indian luxury house Sabyasachi have announced a multi-year collaboration, merging the museum's vast collection with contemporary design. The partnership's first chapter focuses on high jewelry, with future installments extending into accessories and clothing. The inaugural collection draws inspiration from the Byzantine Empire, incorporating objects, motifs, and techniques from The Met's Greek & Roman, Medieval, and Islamic Art departments. Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Founder and Creative Director, emphasized the opportunity to reinterpret centuries of creativity through contemporary design. Every piece is conceived, developed, and handcrafted in India by master artisans, highlighting the living ecosystem of Indian craftsmanship. The collection will debut during New York Fashion Week on September 15, with a runway presentation, and will be available at the Sabyasachi flagship at 160 Christopher Street in the West Village, as well as other global stores and select retailers. The collaboration positions India as a leader in art, craftsmanship, and luxury, fostering an ongoing dialogue between historic art and contemporary making.
