The Godfather Returns to Theaters for 50th Anniversary in Restored Version

Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather returns to theaters as a special event from February 28 to March 2, 2022, in a restored version for its 50th anniversary. The film originally debuted on March 24, 1972. Paramount, together with Coppola's production company American Zoetrope, undertook a meticulous restoration of all three films over three years. Andrea Kalas, Senior Vice President of the Paramount Archives, expressed privilege and awe in working on the restoration. The Godfather, starring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino, is an adaptation of Mario Puzo's novel, depicting the rise and fall of the Corleone family. The film is considered one of the greatest in cinema history. Coppola, who was 32 at the time, was not the only director offered the project; Sergio Leone also declined. The film solidified the success of Hollywood's Actor Studio and demonstrated that emerging television would not overshadow cinema.
