The Edge Observation Deck Opens at Hudson Yards, New York
The Edge, the highest observation deck in the Western Hemisphere, opened at Hudson Yards in New York on March 11, 2020, but closed shortly after due to the pandemic. It reopened in September 2020 with limited capacity, mask requirements, and social distancing markers. Located on the 100th floor of a commercial and residential complex in Chelsea, the deck sits 345 meters above ground, surpassing One World Trade Center and Empire State Building. Designed by KPF (exterior) and Rockwell Group (interiors), its triangular terrace features a 24-meter cantilevered glass floor with frameless panels produced in Germany and finished in Italy. A 20-square-meter transparent section allows visitors to see the city beneath their feet. The most popular spot is the terrace's tip, while a staircase near the entrance offers seating and elevated views. An elevator reaches the top in 52 seconds. Amenities include a champagne bar and the Peak NYC restaurant on the 101st floor (currently closed). The deck is open daily from 12 PM to 8 PM, with sunset times updated online. Healthcare workers receive free entry as a gesture of gratitude. The deck is accessible via the 34th Street-Hudson Yards station on the 7 line.
