The Dolder Grand Hotel in Zurich integrates art and luxury with curated collections and artist residencies

The Dolder Grand Hotel in Zurich, Switzerland, recently marked its 125th anniversary, celebrating its role as a cultural hub with an extensive art collection. Over 100 works by 90 artists, including Takashi Murakami, Mel Ramos, and Salvador Dalí, are curated by the Schwarzenbach family and displayed throughout the hotel. A notable installation is Jani Leinonen's stained-glass piece, The Chapel of Remorse (2019), located in the imperial staircase. For the anniversary, the hotel launched The Perfect Stay residency, inviting seven international artists to create works based on their experiences. In 2020, Saudi contemporary artist Abdallah Qandeel conducted live painting sessions in The Library, culminating in an exhibition. The hotel's architecture, originally designed by Swiss architect Jacques Gros in 1889, was renovated by Foster + Partners from 2004 to 2008, making it Norman Foster's first hotel project. It features Neoclassical pillars, crystal chandeliers, and new wings with a ballroom and spa. Dining options include The Restaurant, with two Michelin stars under Chef Heiko Nieder, Saltz with 15 Gault Millau points, and Canvas Bar and Lounge blending art and history. The Dolder Grand actively collaborates with artists to enhance guest experiences, positioning itself as a premier destination merging art and hospitality.
