The Digital Art Mile Returns to Basel with Expanded Programme
From June 16 to 22, the Digital Art Mile will make its return to Basel, aligning with Art Basel to showcase a week filled with exhibitions, screenings, and dialogues centered on digital art. The event comprises three key programs: a digital art fair, a significant exhibition dedicated to the Quantel Paintbox, and a four-day conference. Among the highlights, London's Mayor Gallery honors Brazilian artist Waldemar Cordeiro, a trailblazer in computer-generated art since 1968. Tyler Hobbs presents new works with La Collection, while Nigerian digital artist Osinachi, the first African creator to have NFTs auctioned by Sotheby's, features solo work with Kate Vass Galerie. The conference at Kult.Kino Cinema will explore four themes, including the digital art market and AI's impact on authorship, with notable speakers such as Sophie Neuendorf, Kenny Schachter, and Hito Steyerl. Additionally, Automata, a group show on robotics and AI curated by Bright Moments Gallery, and Objkt's We Emotional Cyborgs: On Avatars and AI Agents will be part of the fair. The Paintboxed exhibition highlights the Quantel Paintbox, a 1980s platform utilized by artists like David Hockney and Keith Haring.
