The Body Electric at Walker Art Center Explores Body and Technology

The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis presents 'The Body Electric', an exhibition examining the relationship between the physical body and technology through works by over twenty international artists. Running until July 21, the show spans more than fifty years, from 1960s pioneers like Shigeko Kubota, Charlotte Moorman, Nam June Paik, and Wolf Vostell in video art and performance, to contemporary explorations of digital avatars, AI, and bodily manipulation. Artists include Sanja Iveković, Howardena Pindell, Paul Mpagi Sepuya, Cindy Sherman, Amalia Ulman, Laurie Anderson, Ed Atkins, Pierre Huyghe, Sidsel Meineche Hansen, Robert Gober, Anicka Yi, Trisha Baga, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Sondra Perry, Martine Syms, Josh Kline, Carolyn Lazard, Candice Lin & Patrick Staff, and Marianna Simnett. A centerpiece is Zach Blas's 'Icosahedron', an AI-controlled crystal ball that paradoxically predicts the future of predictions. The exhibition will travel to San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts from September 2019 to January 2020.
