Thasnai Sethaseree's Cold War Collages at MAIIAM Museum Explore Thai Political History

At MAIIAM Contemporary Art Museum in Chiang Mai, Thasnai Sethaseree showcases his exhibition titled 'Cold War: the mysterious,' featuring more than 60 collages that delve into Thailand's political past. The artist, known for his activism in democracy, creates large-scale works, including the central piece from 2019–22, which incorporates complex historical allusions. His creative process involves layering thin strips of colored paper on canvases alongside materials such as copper wire and Buddhist monk robes. The exhibition reflects the obscurantism and violence that have characterized Thailand's theater-state since the Cold War, with artworks depicting the 6 October 1976 massacre and QR codes linking to audio commentaries on events like the dictator Thanom Kittikachorn's 1976 return. It will be open until 14 February 2023.
