Thailand Biennale, Istanbul Biennial, and Tselinny Center Announce Artist Lineups and Openings
The Thailand Biennale's fourth edition, titled 'External [Kalpa],' will feature 60 artists and collectives from November to April 2026 in Phuket, directed by Arin Rungjand and David Teh. Participants include Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook, Melati Suryodarmo, Tsai Ming-Liang, Pauline Curnier Jardin & the Feel Good Cooperative, and Wah Nu and Tun Win Aung. In Istanbul, the 18th Istanbul Biennial 'The Three-Legged Cat' reveals 47 artists for its first leg, including Akram Zaatari, Marwan Rechmaoui, Simone Fattal, Khalil Rabah, İpek Duben, Dilek Winchester, and Merve Mepa, running from September 20 to November 23 across eight venues. New York's Art in General has reopened after five years under artistic director Xiaoyu Weng, launching with a fundraising show at YveYang Gallery and planning pop-up events while seeking a permanent home. Iranian-born Australian artist Ali Tahayori received the 2025 NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging) with a $30,000 grant, selected by a panel including Victor Wang, Gillian Kayrooz, and Emily Rolfe. Hong Kong's 3812 Gallery relocates its London outpost to The Whiteley in September, opening with solo shows by Ma Desheng and Stanley Wong. The Tselinny Center of Contemporary Culture opens its permanent Almaty venue on September 5 in a Soviet-era cinema redesigned by Asif Khan, featuring works by Gulnur Mukazhanova and Dariya Temirkhan.
