festival-fair · 2026-04-20

Arin Rungjang and David Teh will serve as artistic directors for the Thailand Biennale's fourth edition, scheduled from November 2025 to April 2026 on Phuket island. Rungjang, a Bangkok-based contemporary artist and co-founder of the As Yet Unnamed group, previously represented Thailand at the 55th Venice Biennale and Documenta 14. Teh brings curatorial experience from biennales across Europe, Australia, and Asia as a researcher and art critic. Curatorial support comes from Hera Chan, who oversees Asia-Pacific art at Tate Modern and teaches at Korea National University of the Arts, and Marisa Phandharakrajadej, a curator and lecturer who organized the first Galleries' Nights Bangsaen in Chonburi. The theme Eternal [Kalpa] examines sustainable human-nature relationships amid ecological challenges. Rungjang explained the theme addresses ecological degradation, technological threats, wars, industrial practices, and nature exploitation stemming from human-centric worldviews. The exploration will cover technology, resource use, ecological degradation, and capitalist exploitation.
