Texture On Set Hair Show Builds Community for Textured Hair Equity

Naeemah LaFond, an award-winning hairstylist, established Texture On Set to tackle the insufficient attention given to textured hair in salons, on runways, and in film production. Now in its third year, this one-day event attracted over 300 participants from editorial, celebrity, and industry sectors, supported by presenting partner Olaplex and sponsors including Oribe, Pattern Beauty, Dyson, Sharkbeauty, SalonCentric, and The Deoux. Curl expert Christin Brown conducted a tutorial focused on prioritizing hair care in styling, while Stacey Ciceron showcased a slick-back ponytail across various hair types. Additionally, makeup artist and historian Michela Wariebi discussed Black hair advancements from the 16th century onward. The event wrapped up with awards, recognizing Sondrea Demry, Ursula Stephens, and Itaysha Jordan for their contributions. LaFond's vision is to foster a community of professionals committed to equity in the fashion and beauty sectors.
