Texas Commission on the Arts Opens Nominations for 2027-2028 State Artists

The Texas Commission on the Arts is now accepting nominations for the 2027-2028 Texas State Artists until October 15. Nominations can be made in several categories, including Poet Laureate, Musician, Musician-Classical, Two-Dimensional, and Three-Dimensional, with the Classical category introduced in 2026. Eligible candidates must be U.S. citizens, Texas residents for at least five years, and demonstrate recognized excellence. Self-nominations are permitted. Current State Artists include Kevin Prufer, Norah Jones, Ana Maria Martinez, Letitia Huckaby, and Linda Ridgway. Nominations should be submitted online through the TCA website, in line with the biennial schedule aligning with Texas Legislature sessions.
