Tessa Giblin named director of Edinburgh's Talbot Rice Gallery amid Scottish arts challenges
Tessa Giblin has been appointed director of Talbot Rice Gallery in Edinburgh, a non-profit exhibition space affiliated with Edinburgh College of Art. Giblin previously served as curator of visual arts at Dublin's Project Arts Center and is commissioner for Ireland's pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale. She succeeds Pat Fisher in the role. The appointment occurs during a difficult period for Scotland's art scene, marked by the closure of Edinburgh's Inverleith House contemporary art gallery located in the city's botanic gardens. Additionally, Glasgow Sculpture Studios announced it would suspend its exhibition program for at least three years and lay off two staff members. Giblin was born in New Zealand.
