Terreyro Coreográfico's Public Space Activism in São Paulo

artist · 2026-04-20

Since its inception in 2014, the Terreyro Coreográfico collective, located in São Paulo, has been dedicated to transforming public spaces through a blend of architecture, choreography, and programming. Their mission is to cultivate public environments that nurture temporary learning communities, embracing a variety of marginalized knowledge. In 2015, they activated an area beneath the Viaduto Libertas overpass with Canteyro de Obras, a series of community-oriented events. They are advocating for a new park in an 11,000sqm zone adjacent to Teatro Oficina, contesting plans for two skyscrapers exceeding 100 meters. Their initiatives encompass choreography, discussions, and planting, with previous partnerships at multiple venues in São Paulo. Bernardo Mosqueira highlighted the collective in the January & February 2018 edition of ArtReview, linked to K11 Art Foundation.
