Terreno Barrio: Palma's new design hotel rooted in community
Terreno Barrio, a 41-room design hotel in Palma de Mallorca, opens with community engagement at its core. Developer Lydia Piñero acquired a 1935 apartment block by architect Francesc Casas and an adjacent plot, collaborating with Jaime Oliver and Paloma Hernaiz of Ohlab. The hotel features a gym, spa, cinema, rooftop pool, and public amenities like a coffee shop, co-working area, and retail space. Ohlab sourced local Mallorcan artists and artisans: rubble from a former nightclub was turned into terrazzo; Sylvia Sánchez Montoya created a curtain from unwanted sheep's wool; Pedro Oliver painted freeform motifs; Albert Pinya contributed murals and graffiti. The restaurant Destape, by Brazilian chef Gabriel Conti, uses local ingredients. A second phase opens in June.
