Terre in Movimento: Photographic Commission on Post-Earthquake Marche at MAXXI

The MAXXI museum in Rome hosted the launch of 'Terre in Movimento', a photographic commission exploring the landscape and communities of Italy's Marche region after the 2016 earthquake. The project, promoted by the Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio delle Marche under Carlo Birrozzi, involves photographers Olivo Barbieri, Paola de Pietri, and Petra Noordkamp. They were chosen to transcend mere documentation of ruins and imbue the work with artistic value. The initiative aims to foster cultural citizenship and include affected populations in cultural production. A mid-September exhibition is planned in Ancona near the Soprintendenza office, then at MAXXI. Works will enter MAXXI's collection. Additionally, Paolo Pellegrin has been commissioned for a similar project in L'Aquila, linked to MAXXI's upcoming branch there. Cristiana Colli, Margherita Guccione, Pippo Ciorra, and others presented the project, which also includes a catalog and future commissions.
