Terrarium Phone Case Embeds Moss and Plants in Transparent Resin

architecture-design · 2026-05-06

Designer Daniel Idle has created the Terrarium Phone Case, a transparent resin accessory for the iPhone 16 Pro Max that integrates soil, moss, and small plants into a self-contained ecosystem. Developed through 3D modeling, the case features a vertical terrarium with a stabilised soil substrate that keeps the planting intact during handling. The closed-loop system relies on moisture cycling via evaporation and condensation, with light supporting plant growth and nutrients breaking down gradually within the substrate. The project redefines the phone case as a living container, merging biological processes with everyday technology.
