Terrae Motus Exhibition in Matera Explores Italy's Earthquake History Through Photography

The exhibition 'Terrae Motus' at Palazzo Acito in Matera, part of Matera 2019 European Capital of Culture, presents over 124 images and video installations documenting Italy's earthquake history from the 1968 Belice quake to the 2016-2017 Central Italy events. Curated by journalist Antonio Di Giacomo, the show features works by photographers including Massimo Siragusa, Massimo Mastrorillo, Gianluca Panella, TerraProject, and others. The exhibition evolves from the online platform 'Lo stato delle cose. Geografie e storie del doposisma', which now contains over 15,000 images accessible via an interactive panel. Di Giacomo's accompanying volume frames the project as an act of care and moral reconstruction, urging preventive safety measures for Italy's vulnerable territories. The show runs until January 20.
