Terni Hosts Impressionist Exhibition Bridging French and Italian Masters

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Palazzo Montani Leoni in Terni presents 'Da Degas a Boldini. Uno sguardo sull’Impressionismo tra Francia e Italia,' curated by Anna Ciccarelli and Pierluigi Carofano, running until June 29. The show features 45 works including sculptures, paintings, and writings from national and international museums and foundations. It highlights Italian artists from the mid-19th century to the 1920s who were overshadowed by the French movement. French artists include Berthe Morisot, the only woman among the Impressionist founders, with three works from French and Irish collections recently exhibited at GAM in Turin. Edgar Degas is represented by two sculptures and two etchings on loan from GNAM in Rome. Italian artists include De Nittis, Zandomeneghi, Boldini, Corcos (with loans from Museo civico Giovanni Fattori in Livorno, Fondazioni Sicilia, and Padova e Rovigo), and Medardo Rosso (from Mart in Trento and Rovereto). A section is dedicated to the Macchiaioli, including Fattori, Lega, Signorini, and Banti. The exhibition culminates with a contemporary section featuring an 'homage to Impressionism' by Mario Schifano and Tano Festa, paired with Édouard Manet and Claude Monet respectively. A video from the Rai archives completes the display.
