Teresa Giannico's Digital Mosaics at Viasaterna, Milan
Teresa Giannico (Bari, 1985) presents her second solo exhibition at Viasaterna gallery in Milan, titled 'Archives of Empathy,' curated by Giangavino Pazzola. The show follows her success at Artissima 2022, where she won the Premio VANNI #artistroom alongside sculptor Tami Izko. Giannico creates digital collages that mimic oil paintings, using 'digital brushstrokes' to compose imaginary landscapes, portraits, and still lifes. Her works juxtapose fragments of images found online, transforming photography from capture to creation. Notable pieces include 'I used to look at your photographs' (2023), featuring a subject with fierce eyes, and 'On Feelings,' depicting three contemporary Graces in an embrace. The 'Late august memories' series presents detailed forest scenes reminiscent of Gustav Klimt's rose garden. Still lifes of flower vases appear as either protagonists or silent companions. Giannico's art explores the boundary between reality and virtuality, generating faces of non-existent people—a feat beyond dreams. The exhibition occupies two rooms on the upper floor of the gallery.
